Thomas Keller was born in 1955 and trained in restaurants in the United States and France. In 1994 he took over The French Laundry in Yountville, California.
In 2004 he opened Per Se in New York. Both restaurants became known for long tasting menus and exacting standards, and both have held three Michelin stars.
He has also opened the Bouchon bistros and bakeries and has written several influential cookbooks.
